About Anna

I’m a part time watercolor artist in Montana. I draw my inspiration from the landscapes of the intermountain west, my life in the mountains, and my travels. I work as a Ski Patroller at Big Sky Resort and as an outdoor educator and gap year instructor both in the western USA and in Central and South America. I also love skiing, snacks, dogs, chocolates, cool rocks, hiking in the mountains, bubbly waters, silliness, traveling, jumping in lakes and mountain biking.

About my art!

I started painting while leading backpacking trips in Colorado during college summers. I liked how I could carry just a few things and easily paint my surroundings with limited tools in the backcountry, in my tent, in the rain, sun, wind. It wasn’t fussy, it could be quick or slow, and it was fun. It gave me a way to better understand the beauty around me, and to take home the experience. I’ve graduated to bigger paper sometimes, and I’ve gotten better at painting with practice, and in 2020 in the midst of the start of lockdown and with encouragement of friends I decided to start print and selling postcards locally to keep myself busy and help others keep in touch during isolation. Since then I’ve worked to grow my business as a side project, but still try to keep painting to be something to do to feel creative and calm, and help me appreciate and remember my surroundings, both familiar and new. I’m drawn to paint landscapes, my travels, nature, flowers and the sky, and I try to create art that balances simplicity and detail. I tend to like gentle colors and lately have been loving painting fully monochromatic scenes—relying on the magic of watercolor to create depth with a single color.

Sliding Scale Pricing

I have a few goals for Skycolor Art, the business: one is to be profitable and able to continue to create art, the other is to be able to make art that is financially accessible to a wide variety of people. Trying to set prices for my art that achieve both of these goals has been exceedingly difficult, often meeting one objective or the other. So I’m trying a new approach: a sliding scale. Each item will have a variety of prices that you can choose from.

On the low end, you’re covering my costs plus a few dollars. On the high end you’re paying me for my time and the energy I have put into developing my art and this business. So, pay what you can: whatever you choose is right for you is right for me, too! I couldn’t, and wouldn’t, create nearly as much as I do without all of the support that this community has given me, and I want to see beautiful things, my beautiful things!, in the hands and homes of anyone who wants them.
