"Denali" Print
“Denali” Watercolor on Paper. Original 11x15, print 6x9.
The two summers prior to painting this I have been fortunate enough to travel to Alaska for work, spending a month with the funniest, most wonderful teenagers and co-instructors.
On both trips, the days backpacking adjacent to Denali National Park and the Alaska Range were so magical and joyful. This particular morning I woke up early and rolled out of my tent into the perpetual daylight of Alaskan summer to a perfectly clear view of the mountains. Looking across the glaciated river valley were piles of increasingly massive mountains, topped with the glowing icy summit of Denali. I heated up water to make breakfast while watching the clouds move about the mountain, overwhelmed with gratitude to be there, and the deep sense of satiated peacefulness that I've only ever found in the backcountry. I sketched the view in my notebook while the water boiled, then painted it weeks later in Seward, when I was isolating with COVID in my tent during a three day rainstorm.
As summer approached this year, this time with no plans to return to Alaska, my mind floated back to this morning. Again filled with gratitude, and this time with longing, too, I painted this 11x15 watercolor of Denali from Montana.
All my prints are made locally by another small business owner on what he states is “the best fine art printing paper on the market”—and I agree! Printed on textured, thick paper and with true to life colors, these prints look as good as the original. They come with acid-free archival quality backing, a white or black mat, and protected in a plastic sleeve.
